Target+Neiman Marcus Collaboration 2012

Target and Neiman Marcus recently had a handful of designers (Marc Jacobs, Thom Browne, and Oscar de le Renta; among others) come together and create some cool items- here are a few of my favorites:

1) Band of Outsiders cookie cutters

2) Rag and Bone Men’s/Boy’s shawl-collar cardigan

3) Derek Lam complete skate deck

4) Prabal Gurung embellished shoulder bag (for the ladies)

5) Thom Browne rib-trim blazer

I personally went with the Rag and Bone cardigan tonight:

and if you can get over my I-had-fun-once-and-it-was-awful face, I feel like this is a winner. It’s roughly 50% wool, 50% cotton, so it keeps you warm well enough.

Pro tip for the guys: this cardigan runs a little large. As America would have it, I’d say the tagged Small fits like a true Medium. Fortunately, this Boy’s tagged Large version features the same details and proportions as the Men’s version, so I feel it works better for the slimmer guys out there (although not for the long-torso’d). Plus, it’s $20 cheaper than the Men’s size!

If I could change one element I would have added functional front-pockets; these Rag and Bone pockets are purely decorative.

Otherwise, if not for anything else- find your nearest Target/Neiman Marcus(+Last Call) store and buy your favorite items up. From my understanding, returns on these items are only valid through January 5, 2013, and will likely not be available after.

It’s only been the first day of sales and a grip of items have already been sold out. Some items may be worth more once some time passes I think…

Or, you can just purchase the $499 Alice + Olivia bicycle, like this lady did.

Canon 5D Images

It’s been awhile- but I recently procured a Canon 5D MK i for a ridiculous price of $450 (FULL FRAME FOR UNDER $500!) via eBay. Though I don’t have any lenses yet, others have been kind enough to let me borrow some manual focus lenses to capture images for test purposes, so I’ve been screwing around with getting back into shooting again.

That said, I hope to start showering my life w/ more images, should the rest of this year permit:

I love examples like this- simple, or almost mandatory, items are carefully displayed as a reflection of his/her lifestyle (I specifically chose this example because I recently received the same exact pair of Warby Parker frames!).

Warby Parker Fillmore Frames

I haven’t updated the blog in awhile; I’m aware!

On the other hand, I’ve been taking a look at the frames over at Warby Parker, specifically the Fillmore model (love the keyhole bridge!).

The black is way too strong on me in my opinion (see above), but I’m most likely going to go in on either the Tennessee Whiskey or the limited edition Auteur Redwood Ash. Between the two, what do you viewers on tumblr think?

Heck, at the price point of $95 for the frames + UV/scratch protected + anti-glare lenses (prescription included!) I don’t even care if I look like a fool in them. Also, as we all know by this point, they donate a pair of glasses for a person in need w/ every purchase. So really, it’s a win-win for all.

Please check them out, even if you don’t need a pair of prescription frames!

(PS - if you are ordering frames w/ a prescription pair, you will need a current, non-expired prescription from your local eye doctor, via fax, e-mail, phone-in from office, etc.)

Shure SE215 in-ear monitors

For anyone who wants to ditch his/her ipod earphones and wants to step into the world of in-ear monitors, I highly recommend the Shure SE215’s.

Though these are only single dynamic drivers, they do offer more of an emphasized low-end response compared to the higher priced SE425/SE535 models (double/triple, balanced armature drivers, respectively). To be frank though, my $10 Sony earphones had a broader spectrum of sub-bass and high-end frequencies, though sound wasn’t very consistent since they didn’t fit directly into my ear canal.

One of the main reasons I’m in love with these is their sound isolation- nearly 37db. I actually wore these listening to music while a full band jammed in the next room, and could certainly enjoy my music just fine. On the downside, I can’t tell if people are talking to me, or if a car is approaching when jogging (danger!).

Another perk of this particular Shure line is the ability to replace cables- typically in the past if you broke a cable, you would have lost your $400 in-ear monitors forever; end of story. Now, you can replace the cables for a lower premium w/ out throwing away everything!

I’ll probably go over this new Shure SE series in more detail at a later date, but I wanted to express how great they are for the price (~$100 retail).

Some quick obvservations: the 215’s can be very fatiguing to listen to for hours on end. To me, there is a slight bump in the 4-6k frequency range that really gets to me after some time. For comparison, the SE425’s has less hard-hitting bass, but possesses a flatter frequency response, and “silkier” midrange. I could listen to the 425’s for days w/ out stopping, especially at louder volumes. I imagine the 425’s would be best suited for live performers/sound engineers, rather than general/fun listening.

Overall, I can’t do much complaining for an $80 brand-new find on eBay. Now, onto the Shure SE535’s…

Dollar Tree stock is more than a dollar

I just recently delved into some elements of finance (specifically stocks), but has anyone checked out the dollar stores (Dollar Tree)? They’re shooting up like crazy at $110.34/ share, and appear to be very consistent, even since ‘96 in this example.

And they say the economy is going back up.

Apparently, Coldplay spends over half a million dollars a night on flashing wristbands for the fans.

I haven’t been to a Coldplay concert (but hear the shows are astounding). Either way, I don’t think they’ll be going broke anytime soon, though we all know how much musicians make these days.

Moonrise Kingdom, a film by Wes Anderson

If Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom is in your area, I definitely recommend you see it.

It’s a film that leaves you warm and fuzzy on the inside after, without you being horribly depressed beforehand.

This one gets two thumbs up from me!

A Fine Frenzy - Now is the Start

I’m upset I didn’t catch this earlier- but here is the single for Alison Sudol’s (A Fine Frenzy) album coming out September 18th: “Now is the Start,” from Pines- which is also featured in the film What to Expect When You’re Expecting.

This is certainly different than her previous efforts, but I think it works well. You can almost tell she was touching upon some dancy tunes from her last record, ie Blow Away.

There’s no telling what the rest of the album will feel like at this point, but I’m beyond stoked.

Melanie Laurent - Kiss
